Hurricanes visiting UNB on Sunday in Fredericton

September 12, 2018

Ryan Abraham on September 8.

The 4-0 men’s baseball Hurricanes will travel to Fredericton, NB on Sunday to take on the University of New Brunswick (1-1) in Atlantic conference regular season action; the double-header will begin at 1pm with game two scheduled for 3:30pm.

The ‘Canes are coming off a strong opening weekend which saw them take two victories at home versus the St. Mary’s Huskies before travelling to Wolfville, NS on Sunday to sweep both games from the Acadia Axemen.

Chandler Laporte, an outfielder and pitcher for the ‘Canes from Cornwall, PEI, knows UNB will not be an easy opponent this Sunday.

“UNB will provide strong competition for our team this weekend, so our game plan is to keep it simple and play our game one inning at a time.”

UNB split a pair of games last Saturday with the Axemen, losing 6-0 in the opener before winning the second by a score of 14-12.

Ryan Abraham (1-0) is expected to be the starting pitcher for game one on Sunday while it’s predicted that Tyler Johnston (1-0) will start game two.

“We were very pleased with the start to our season last weekend at home,” shared head coach Andrew MacNevin.  “We’ll continue working with our players as we aim to improve every day.  UNB will be a good test for us this weekend as they’ve always had a strong program; we’re looking forward to getting to the field on Sunday in Fredericton.”

The Hurricanes play their next home game on Sunday, September 23 when they host the St. FX X-Men for a double-header at Memorial Field in Victoria Park; game times are 1 and 3:30pm.
